When designing a building, as an Architect you need to all the information to be able to progress with designs. This information is provided by surveyors, who carry out various surveys, such as measured building surveys, topographical surveys, as built, and 3D laser scanning. From this information, you can create drawings, which will support you throughout the stages of the process, from planning to constructing.

What does a survey give you?

Depending on the type of survey you have requested, it will give you varying information. At Powers, we conduct all types of surveys which will help you to design a house, whether it is already built and needs remodelling or if you are building from scratch.

Having all the information before any work commences will prevent any complications with the site in the later stages.

Measured Building Surveys

A measured building survey is an accurate representation of a building. It will show you all the architectural elements and structural features. Measured building surveys also provide floor plans, elevations, and cross-sections. By providing you with detailed features of the building (gargoyles, light fixtures, and windows) you will be able to work with the aesthetics in much better detail, understanding where the light will come in.

Topographical survey

Having a topographical survey will give you data on the land. This will inform you on how to build on the land if it fits within the boundary lines.

Underground Utility Detection (UUD)

Not only can we tell you the story above ground with our topographical survey in detail, but what’s also below. UUD is essential for designers and architects as existing underground utilities can influence the progression of the design. All utilities are colour coordinated and scaled accurately to present the site as it exists.

What will the survey cover?

All our surveys will provide you with all the accurate information you need to proceed with designing. The information we provide you will include:

  • Windows and doors (including patterns on windows)
  • Ceiling heights
  • Sections
  • Pipework (including waste and water downpipes)
  • Boundary lines
