Type D Desktop Report Survey
Know what's on record before boots hit the ground.
What is a Type D Desktop Report Survey?
A PAS 128 Type D survey gathers existing utility records and statutory plans from utility owners. This desktop study helps identify known infrastructure before any field survey takes place.
Desktop utility records are not enough on their own, but they are an important first control and give the project team a starting point before site investigation begins.
Applications
Typically used at early project stages when assessing constraints or planning design options.
Constraints of a Type D Desktop Search
- Services may not be in the exact location that the plan says they are in.
- The plan may be outdated.
- The plan may be missing abandoned or undocumented assets.
Benefits
- Provides an initial understanding of buried infrastructure
- Supports early project planning
- Highlights potential service conflicts
- No correlation with site conditions
- Cannot be relied on for Excavation, Piling, drainage design or service diversions.
Deliverables
- Utility records plans
- Constraints mapping
- Data collation report
- Guidance for further investigation surveys
